becoming determined

Well, it seems the third time may indeed be the charm -- Bret and I have decided to quit being "sensible" and just get the hell married! March 15th we had too much going on, June 7th we were too broke. So now our wedding date is August 9th. And this time, come frell or high water, we're sticking with it!

To that end, I am taking steps to prevent either of us from having an unexpected attack of good sense, and attempting to postpone our nuptials yet again. First, I have printed our invitations. Well, SOME of them, anyway. I had 20 printed when I realized that I want to include our wedding info website address on them. So I guess those are trash! Good thing I have plenty of extras. We haven't actually set up the website yet, so I don't know what the URL will be. I am DETERMINED to get our website up by the end of this 3-day weekend, so that I can print the invites and mail them out on Monday. If I can hold a pen long enough to address them all!

I have also finished designing the wrapper for our chocolate bar favors. I used a purple and turquoise circular gradient background, with a purple peace sign centered over it. Superimposed on that is the type, in white appropriately hippie-ish fonts, reading:

Our Groovy Hippie Wedding

I'm pleased with the design, and Bret loved it when I showed him, but I definitely need to find a better paper to use. Something semi-gloss or satin finish, but lightweight and flexible (does such a paper exist?). Sherry said she has seen big boxes of Hershey Bars at Costco for a cheap price, so this will be an affordable favor to offer. And given my pact with God to not eat chocolate until my wedding day if He would spare Bret's beloved brother Randy's life, what favor could be more appropriate?

Last night, I ordered the LOVE candle for the top of our wedding cake. They have such great candles at 100 Candles. But I was APPALLED that the shipping and handling was nearly as much as the candle itself! How can it possibly cost eight bucks to ship one candle? And there was nothing to say how long it might take to be delivered. For that much money, it should have been on my doorstep this morning!

Also this week, I sent Highland Rags a SASE to send me a swatch of the white-on-white fabric I've requested for my wedding gown. Once I get that and approve the fabric, I can order the gown from their website. Hopefully, that will happen early next week. $60.00 for a wedding gown! Including shipping! Holy dren, I couldn't even make a dress for that price, even if I HAD been able to find a pattern so similar to my favorite high-school dress!

Brenda generously bought us a box of the mini bubbles bottles for our reception. They are quite plain, and I have been pondering ways to dress them up. I'm thinking about using Fimo to create "tie-dyed" covers for the lids, and perhaps asking Ashley to make tiny strings of "love beads" to hang around the necks. Brenda is more than willing to get crafty with me some afternoon. We could do them all in just a few hours.

OK, this heat is making me cranky. I'm hitting the shower!
